What is the time commitment?

Writers are required to write one article every month, and editors usually edit 1-2 articles every month. Please refer to the Publish page for more information on the specific types of work written. You can also look at our current articles to see what types we publish.

Can I list this on my resume?

Yes! You can list it as working for a student publication.

What are the positions I can apply for?

You can apply to be an executive writer or editor. More information will be given to you about each of these positions and their necessary contributions after we receive and review your application.

Is this a paid position?

No, this is an unpaid volunteer position only for students in high-school and undergraduate college.

What happens if I miss a deadline?

At YMJ, we value commitment and consistency. Therefore, if there is an inability to meet a certain deadline as we approach each submission cycle, a lack of communication between team members, or a lack of execution of your position completely and consistently, we will terminate your position.

Can I have an extension if I am unable to reach a deadline on time?

If you notify us at least 24 hours before the deadline, we will allow a deadline up to one week, depending on your circumstances.

What forms of communication do we use?

YMJ members mainly communicate through emails and our Discord Server.

If I am a writer, how do I submit articles?

You will share a google document of your article to ymjsubmissions@gmail.com with editing permissions. It will then be shared with your editor.

If I am an editor, when should I have articles edited by?

By the time you receive an article, you should have it edited within 7 days of it being shared with you.

When should I apply by?

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so there is no hard deadline.
